Mr. Salif Bah, a dedicated teacher at Nioro Jattaba Senior Secondary School, is breaking barriers by venturing into a poultry farm to meet the high demand for chicken in the rural areas. Recognising the scarcity of chicken, a popular alternative to beef or mutton, especially during social and religious occasions, Mr. Bah aims to make a positive impact on his community.
As a geography teacher, Mr. Bah’s passion for nurturing young minds is matched only by his desire to create additional sources of income for his family and the community. He is armed with skills learned from college friends at the Brikama campus of the Gambia College.
Despite the initial challenges of market experience and the time it takes to sell each batch of poultry, Mr. Bah remains undeterred. He is determined to notify buyers across Kiang West and some parts of Southern Senegal to make his venture profitable.
His long-term vision includes expanding his business by investing in small ruminants, catering to new customer segments. He plans to add layers to his farm to start supplying eggs, diversifying his offerings and ensuring sustainable growth.
Mr. Bah’s entrepreneurial spirit aligns perfectly with the ideas of the National Development Plan (NDP) on youth employment through entrepreneurship. He believes that young graduates and school leavers can take up similar challenges to enter the job market early and contribute positively to the local economy.
He asks for support on his remarkable journey in creating new opportunities for his community. His dedication to both teaching and poultry farming exemplifies the power of innovation and determination in fostering economic growth and self-reliance.
