The Publisher and Managing Editor of the Gambian online media called Mansa Banko Online, on Sunday, 24 March, 2024, left Banjul International Airport to attend a workshop under the theme: “Communication for a Sustainable and inclusive Blue Ocean.

The workshop will run from 26th – 27th March, 2024 in Fes, Morocco, as part of a partnership the Media Observatory for Sustainable Fisheries in Africa (MOSFA) Action Plan 2024 and the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation Among African States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean (ATLAFCO) organised the workshop.

The workshop with the topic: “Communication for a Sustainable and Inclusive Blue Economy” is expected to bring together government representatives, fisheries experts, members of civil society, specialized journalists [among them a regional Network of Journalists and Communicators Reporting on Fisheries, in short- MOSFA], and private sector actors to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to sustainable management of marine resources.

Shortly before his departure for the North African nation, Njie, said ATLAFCO invited journalists of MOSFA that are actively reporting on fisheries on the African continent.

“I’m so much thrilled to be selected among MOSFA journalists to be part of this important workshop because it will help me understand the concept of blue economy, contribute to raising awareness among the public and decision-makers on the emerging problems and concepts of sustainable fisheries development, particularly that of the blue economy and support the implementation of monitoring of regional and national sustainable and inclusive blue economy strategies through an adapted communication strategy,” he averred, “Inviting me to represent my medium and MOSFA, clearly indicated that my work has been recognized not only nationally, but regionally and globally,” Mansa Banko Online Polisher cum Managing Editor stated.

The workshop, Njie said is to exchange ideas, share experiences, and promote an environmentally friendly and inclusive blue economy saying that “together, we build a more sustainable future for our oceans and coastal communities”.

Mr. Njie saluted his Editorial Team for the “tremendous job” they are doing in reporting on fisheries, business and agricultural issues in the country and beyond.
