Officials of the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) on Thursday, 4th February, 2021 appeared before the National Assembly’s Public Enterprises Committee (PEC) at the legislative House in Banjul.
During the session, officials told the lawmakers that GIEPA had been delayed in the submission and presentation of its activity reports and financial statements, due to the demise of their ex-Chief Executive Officer (ex-CEO).
The Board also told the legislative committee that they had few pending issues but reassured the NAMs that they (GIEPA) could get them done and completed in a short period, with their auditors.
The GIEPA Board expressed its appreciation of the PEC’s decision to accede to the agency’s request for more time, and also the committee’s continued support to GIEPA.
“We extend our sincere apologies and reaffirm our commitment to making sure that we comply with the stipulated date,” GIEPA told the Members.
The NAM for Serekunda Central and Chairperson of PEC, Hon. Halifa Sallah, after consultation with Committee members, informed the Board Members of GIEPA that, the committee has agreed to consider their request. Sallah pointed out that, the committee members came to the decision that “this was a reasonable proposition” which they should accede to, and in that regards, they agreed that GIEPA would submit its activity reports and financial statements for the year ended 31st December 2019 “on or before 15th February 2021”.
The NAM opined the exercise would help the country and GIEPA to play its vital role in promoting the productive base of the national economy.
Consequently, the sitting with the country’s investment and export promotion body was adjourned to 15 February, for the presentation of their aforementioned documents for scrutiny and consideration by the committee.
