Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford will host a public conversation on regional democracy and constitutional governance in West Africa on Monday, 13 July 2026.
The event, titled “Strengthening Regional Democracy: The ECOWAS Parliament and the Future of Constitutional Governance in West Africa,” will feature Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. of the Republic of Liberia as the guest speaker.
Senator Snowe, who also serves as Chair of the ECOWAS Parliament Committee on Political Affairs, Peace, Security, and the African Peer Review Mechanism, will share insights on the role of regional institutions in promoting democratic governance and sustainable peace across West Africa.
The public lecture is being organised under the auspices of the Green Templeton College Graduate Common Room in collaboration with the Oxford African Governance Forum, the Centre for African Policy, and African Rebirth.
It will take place at 5:30 p.m. BST in the Barclays Room at Green Templeton College.
Discussions will focus on the evolving role of the ECOWAS Parliament in strengthening constitutional governance, reinforcing democratic institutions, protecting electoral integrity, and fostering peace, security, and regional cooperation among member states.
The event also underscores Liberia’s growing contribution to regional and global policy discussions, providing a platform for dialogue on the future of democratic governance in West Africa.
