The government of President Adama Barrow, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has declared Monday, 16 December, 2019 as the commencement of this year’s groundnut trade season. The keenly expectant farming community heard that the price of ton at the seccos {buying points} is D18,000 (Eighteen Thousand Dalasi).
In conveying the news through a press release issued on 15 December 2019, the Barrow administration, through its ministry responsible for farming matters, encouraged farmers to take their groundnuts to the nearest buying point in their respective localities, and assured them that there would be “no credit buying as all payment will be done on delivery”.
Through the Agric Ministry, the government also urged stakeholders of their cooperation to making 2020 groundnut market season a success.
Readers would recall that the farmgate price for groundnuts for the 2017 / 18 groundnut marketing season was pegged at a subsidized price of D17,300.00 (seventeen thousand, three hundred Dalasi) per ton or D17.30 per kg.
The depot price for same was set at D18, 800 (eighteen thousand eight hundred Dalasi) per ton.
