The National Agricultural Land and Water Management Development Project (Nema) supported Women Horticultural gardeners in Sutukoba Village, Wuli West District of Upper River Region, have hailed the project officials for the provision of a new garden in that village.
They made the acknowledgement in an interview with Mansa Banko Online news media.
Ms. Nyima Jaiteh intimated that with the new garden, the problem of inadequate space for horticultural production is history.
Ms. Mabintou Keita indicated that horticulture is their second farming season, but she lamented that they don’t have enough space for production.
Noting they rely on the sales from their produce for sustenance, Keita is hopeful the Nema-supported garden would maximize their horticultural production.
Another Sutukoba gardener, Ms. Fanta Trawally also patted Nema on the back for the garden, and further appealed for the supply of necessary tools and seeds to enhance production.
Madam Trawally echoed, “We want to also call on Nema and government to help us with a standard market to sell our produce.”
For her part, Aja Mariama Touray urged the concerned authorities to provide them with pesticides so as to protect their garden produce against pest infestation. She decried that infestation reduces the value and yields of their productions.
The production at the garden would contribute towards the attainment of food self-sufficiency, said Fatou Touray, as she held that the garden would provide the unique space for the realization of that dream.
