The Mansakonko Area Council in the Lower River Region witnessed a remarkable act of generosity earlier today when Gambian philanthropist Mr. Saikou Jammeh, based in Spain, donated essential medical and safety equipment to two key institutions.
The presentation ceremony was presided over by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Mr. Almamo A.K. Ceesay, who handed over medical supplies to Soma District Hospital and protective gear to the Mansakonko Fire and Rescue Service.
Among the items donated were eyeglasses, operational wipers, and blood testing machines for the hospital, while the fire service received helmets and uniforms equipped with reflectors to enhance the safety of its personnel.
In his keynote address, Vice Chairman Ceesay expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Jammeh, describing the donation as a timely intervention that will help address pressing challenges faced by both the hospital and the fire service. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering productive partnerships that strengthen service delivery across the Local Government Area.
The officer in charge of the Mansakonko Fire and Rescue Service and the CEO of Soma District Hospital both lauded the initiative, assuring that the donated materials would be used effectively for their intended purposes.
Mr. Jammeh, visibly delighted with the collaboration, emphasized the importance of empowering local councils, noting that when councils are strengthened, communities benefit at large. He pledged his continued support and partnership with the Council in driving development across the region.
This gesture stands as a shining example of how diaspora Gambians can play a pivotal role in uplifting communities back home, bridging gaps in healthcare and emergency services while inspiring collective responsibility for local development.
