The MRC Holland Foundation has reinforced its commitment to advancing education in The Gambia with a substantial donation of 1,000 Phonics Teacher’s Books to the University of Education The Gambia (UEG). The handover, which took place on Friday, May 15, 2026, comes just hours after the Foundation inaugurated a construction site for new classroom buildings at the university.
The dual initiatives highlight the Foundation’s growing partnership with UEG and its focus on strengthening teacher training and infrastructure for Early Childhood Development (ECD). The donated books are expected to play a vital role in preparing future ECD educators, equipping them with essential tools to improve teaching practices and enhance learning outcomes.
Speaking at the ceremony, UEG’s Chief Director of Operations, Dr. Aboubacarr Jallow, expressed deep gratitude to Mrs. Henriata and the MRC Holland Foundation. He assured that the resources would be used effectively to support teacher training programs.
“This generous support will directly contribute to quality education and the professional development of our teachers,” Dr. Jallow said.
The University praised the Foundation’s unwavering commitment, describing the collaboration as a cornerstone in efforts to uplift education standards across The Gambia.
With both the donation of teaching materials and the launch of new classroom construction, the MRC Holland Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in the country — a partnership that UEG says is vital to its mission of delivering accessible, high-quality learning opportunities.
