Mr. Modou MC Cham Jnr., the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) candidate for the Jeshwang Constituency upcoming parliamentary race, said his desire for contesting is to fight against corruption, among other things.

Speaking shortly after submitting his nomination papers to the IEC Office in Kanifing Municipality, MC Cham Jr. intimated, “My objective of contesting is to have a better Gambia, and my topmost priority is to fight against corruption.” He added his priorities also include the promotion of health, education and security of the country, and as well as to work towards improving the living conditions of his constituents and Gambians at large.

On whether he had submitted all the required documents for his nomination, the GDC senior official had this to say, “I know all the requirements for the nomination and I came and submitted all the required documents to the IEC.”  He expressed optimism that he would emerge victorious, in view of the “support base” he has in Jeshwang Constituency and the number of supporters who accompanied him to the IEC to submit his nomination papers.

“Right now, the citizens are suffering. Since 2017 to now, there is no proper checking in the current government and a government without proper checking is a dangerous government,” Cham told the press. He vowed to address that if elected as the representative of Jeshwang electorate in the National Assembly, while reiterating that his ultimate objectives, inter alia, are to fight and eradicate corruption in the country, promote security, health and education.

The GDC Jeshwang candidate used the opportunity to thank his supporters, whom he claimed are from the “GDC, APRC and other parties”, for the support they have shown him, as he’s eyeing the Assembly seat of his constituency.
