The ECOWAS Parliament, in collaboration with national and international partners, will tomorrow, Monday, 6th July 2026, launch a week-long Parliamentary-Citizen Engagement in The Gambia.

The event, themed “Safe Choices. Bright Future. Together Against Irregular Migration and Trafficking in Persons,” will run from 6th to 10th July 2026. It will bring together Members of the ECOWAS Parliament, government institutions, development partners, community leaders, youth, women, migration returnees, and citizens.

The engagement aims to foster dialogue on the drivers of irregular migration and human trafficking, while promoting safe and informed decision-making across communities.

During the opening day on Monday, participants are expected to hold presentations and discussions on current trends in irregular migration in The Gambia, led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM); on trafficking in persons, headed by the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP); on migrant and returnee profiles, presented by the Gambia Immigration Department (GID); and on community vulnerabilities and emerging challenges, facilitated by the National Youth Council.

On Tuesday, Members of the ECOWAS Parliament will lead community sensitization sessions in local languages on irregular migration and trafficking. The day will also feature testimonies from returnees and survivors of trafficking, followed by an interactive dialogue between Parliamentarians and citizens to gather community concerns and recommendations.

The initiative underscores ECOWAS Parliament’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between policymakers and citizens in tackling irregular migration and trafficking in persons across the region.
