The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) welcomed a high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) and Spanish partners during a courtesy visit to its headquarters in Banjul.
The delegation, led by Elena Perego, Head of the EU Migration Project, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting The Gambia’s migration management efforts. Ms. Perego praised the GID’s dedication to collaboration, pledging continued assistance through the COP project, which is implemented under the Spanish National Police.
Director General Ebrima Mboob expressed appreciation for the EU’s sustained support, highlighting the tangible impact of the COP project on strengthening migration governance. He emphasized the GID’s determination to uphold and expand the partnership, noting that the collaboration has been instrumental in enhancing operational effectiveness.
The meeting concluded with both parties renewing their commitment under the COP 2 project, while also exploring new areas of cooperation to further bolster migration management strategies.
This visit underscores the growing international cooperation between The Gambia and the European Union, with Spain playing a pivotal role in advancing shared objectives on migration governance and security.
