On June 1, 2026, Catalyst Academy officially launched the second cohort of its Sustainable Livelihood Project, bringing together 25 participants from partner Madarassahs to embark on a transformative journey in organic farming and entrepreneurship.
The opening day was marked by a vibrant overview session on organic farming, where participants gained insights into the programme’s objectives and the opportunities awaiting them in sustainable agriculture. Orientation activities and introductions fostered a spirit of collaboration, laying the foundation for a supportive learning environment.
The programme was formally declared open by Professor Momodou Sallah, Director of Catalyst Academy, who urged participants to seize the opportunity to acquire practical skills that could empower them and strengthen community resilience. His words were echoed by Sheikh Abdoulie Secka, Head of Oumou Amina Madarassah, and Sheikh Yusuf Bojang, both of whom encouraged discipline, dedication, and commitment to the training.
Lead trainer Farama Badjie outlined the two-week intensive programme on organic horticulture and composting, emphasizing the practical skills and entrepreneurial pathways available in the sector. He motivated participants to actively engage in every session and embrace the hands-on learning experience.
Throughout the opening sessions, facilitators highlighted the transformative potential of organic agriculture, stressing its role in promoting self-reliance, sustainable income generation, and community development. Rules and regulations were reviewed, underscoring discipline, punctuality, and active participation as keys to success.
On the second day, participants took part in a reflection exercise, each sharing their expectations, aspirations, and motivations for joining the programme. This activity not only encouraged meaningful interaction but also set a positive tone for the weeks ahead.
With enthusiasm and commitment, the 25 participants embarked on a journey that promises to equip them with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods—a step forward in strengthening resilience and fostering community growth.
