The Gambia Standards Bureau, in partnership with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), KALDEP, the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), convened a landmark workshop at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center to advance the country’s Halal Quality Infrastructure.
Held under the theme “Fostering a Sustainable and Internationally-Recognized National Halal Quality Infrastructure in The Gambia,” the event brought together government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, academia, certification bodies, and members of the public.
The workshop served as a strategic platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and capacity building on Halal standards and conformity assessment systems. Participants explored opportunities to strengthen The Gambia’s framework for Halal standardization, certification, accreditation, and international recognition.
Officials emphasized that robust Halal quality infrastructure is critical for enhancing consumer confidence, facilitating trade, attracting investment, and ensuring compliance with internationally accepted requirements. The initiative is also seen as a gateway for The Gambia to tap into the rapidly growing global Halal market.
Speaking at the event, organizers highlighted the shared commitment of national and international partners to support the development of a credible, sustainable, and globally recognized Halal ecosystem. They noted that such efforts could significantly contribute to economic growth, expand market access, and boost the competitiveness of Gambian products and services.
The workshop marks a pivotal step in positioning The Gambia as a trusted player in the global Halal economy, with long-term benefits expected for industries and communities across the country.
