The Bundung Six Junction Ward Committee has distributed Sixty five (65) lighting poles as it officially launched the third phase of the fourth ‘Lights Up Our Community project’ in Bundung.
According to officials, the project was initiated by the Ward Councillor Mr. Sulayman Jammeh, together with members of the Ward Development Committee, in order to increase security but also promote access to electricity within the area.
Reliable sources say the first phase of the project concentrated on the electrification of the cemeteries, the second phase focused on electrifying public places such as car parks, religious centers, and schools, police stations within and outside Bundung Six Junction; whilst the third phase is on course to provide electric poles to compounds within the community.
Out of the sixty five (65) poles, thirty (30) poles were donated by Empire Furniture and the rest funded by the Ward Council through the intervention Councillor Jammeh and his committee. It’s been disclosed that the fourth phase would be a continuation of the third phase.
In his remarks, Jammeh extolled his Ward Development Committee members for their outstanding contributions and dedication to work in serving the people of their ward. He attributed the achievements of the ward to unity and dedication to duty as they execute their functions diligently without fear or favor.
“Without unity as a community, we can never achieve such developments for our great community,” Jammeh stressed.
The seasoned grassroots politician believes leaders could only achieve success if there is peace, love, and unity among the people. He, therefore, appealed to his fellow politicians to promote peace and unity, emphasizing it’s the only way forward for the development of the country for Gambians yet unborn. The Six Junction local representative at the KMC hopes to leave a ‘good legacy’, reasoning that is why he’s doing his best in his tenure as Councillor of the ward.
Jammeh stated that the Lights Up Community Project is purely launched to provide street lighting system within the community as one way of reducing crimes, enhancing community safety, and inculcate pride thereby encouraging informal social control in the neighborhoods.
The Ward Secretary, Mr. Aboubacarr Sillah, thanked Empire Furniture for the sponsorship while acknowledging the commitment and dedication of the Ward Development Committee. He saluted the members for their foresightedness in moving Bundung Six Junction to development.
Mr. Modou Gaye, another speaker hailed Councillor Jammeh as a role model who should be emulated by all the Councillors serving their people in the Gambia. He told the audience that Jammeh always comes with great initiatives that impact the lives of the electorate regardless of their political affiliations.
He used the opportunity to call on the Barrow government, Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and business establishments to render supportive hands to this lighting initiative in Bundung Six Junction Ward. He couldn’t conclude without urging the beneficiaries to make the best of use of the light poles.
