The Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal have signed a series of landmark cooperation agreements spanning energy, border management, digital economy, youth development, technology, culture and tourism, and higher education, research, science, and technology.
The agreements were finalized during the 4th Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council, co-chaired by President Adama Barrow of The Gambia and President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye of Senegal. The Council, the highest decision-making body for bilateral cooperation, continues to serve as a driving force for joint action on priorities affecting citizens of both nations.
President Barrow reaffirmed The Gambiaβs commitment to full implementation of the agreements, emphasizing stronger collaboration in defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, transport, health, education, environment, digital transformation, and border management. He described the Council as βa mandate to consolidate our historic bond for present and future generations.β
President Faye highlighted the Councilβs results-driven framework, citing the Senegambia Bridge and the Senelec-NAWEC electricity interconnection as tangible examples of successful joint action. He reiterated Senegalβs commitment to unlocking economic integration, expanding trade, and combating illicit fishing.
To ensure effective delivery of the roadmaps adopted during the session, both governments agreed to establish joint working groups tasked with coordinating, monitoring, and fast-tracking commitments.
