Professor Atif Amin Hussein and his family today Wednesday handed over fifty (50) packs of food items including rice, cooking oil, onion to widows of fallen personnel of the Gambia Armed Forces and two (2) drones for the communications unit.
During the donation ceremony, Professor Hussein expressed happiness for the swift response received from the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) allowing him to fulfill this important task. This he said is part of his obligation to contribute his quota to helping the vulnerable people especially widows of fallen members of the Gambia Armed Forces. He further dilated on the need to use technology as well in solving security issues of the Armed Forces given the porous nature of the Gambian borders. The philanthropist also indicated his commitment to further collaborate with the Armed Forces and promised some slots of scholarship for members of GAF under the Southampton online university package in order to further enhance their capacity.
Deputizing for the Chief of Defence Staff Gambia Armed Forces Major General Yakuba Drammeh, the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier General Mamat O Cham expressed delight in receiving the token of gifts from the philanthropist.
He described the donation to the widows as a touching one as it is the first of its kind received since the world has been gripped with the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. He highlighted the need to leverage on technology for the fact that manpower alone cannot cover all GAF operations without the aid of technology. On the offer of scholarship to GAF personnel for the online university package, the General officer welcomed the initiative and assured the collaboration of GAF in that endeavor.
He concluded by encouraging the philanthropist while assuring him of the highest consideration of the Armed Forces at all times.
