The Gambia Armed Forces has marked another milestone in its transformation journey with the graduation of 149 personnel from a two-week intensive Internal Security Operations course. This achievement underscores the Armed Forcesโ commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of civilian dignity.
The graduation ceremony, presided over by Brigadier General Yaya Drammeh, Commander of the Republican National Guard (RNG), on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, brought together senior officers, instructors, and partners including the Turkish MILAD Director of Training.
The training program focused on equipping participants with advanced tactical and professional skills, including:
– Conflict management and public order maintenance
– Crisis response and negotiation techniques
– Responsible use of force and civilian protection
– International humanitarian law and first aid under operational pressure
– Professional engagement with the media during operations
Military leadership emphasized that modern security operations require not only tactical competence but also discipline, emotional control, and respect for human rights. Brigadier General Drammeh urged graduates to apply their new knowledge within their units and share lessons learned to strengthen the force collectively.
The Armed Forces commended the dedication of the GAF Training School instructors and reaffirmed its broader commitment to institutional reform, transparency, and national security. This graduation is part of ongoing efforts to build a modern military rooted in democratic values and dedicated to national development.
