The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) under the leadership of Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda, has commissioned four new trucks with skip bins, on Monday, 14 October 2019 at its head office in Kanifing. The new trucks are earmarked for the waste collections in the markets and public places within the Kanifing Municipality.

The Lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Ahmed Talib Bensouda pointed out that the new consignment is geared towards curbing illegal dump sites, and also collecting waste around business premises within the KMC.

‘’Our purpose is to now turn this waste into commercial… and in the next few months we will call you again, and then we will talk to you on a new thing’’, he told the gathering.

Reminding that their role is to bring the materials, and proffer solutions, the Head of KMC made it clear that the rest has to be done by the community.

The deputy Mayor of KMC, Mr. Musa Bah, indicated that the consignment was a concept that they have developed so as to make sure that it bears fruits, and that’s what they harvesting today.

Reassuring that they would not stop with this consignment, Bah said their next plan is to make so that they process the waste, so as to utilize it.

The Project Manager of Waste Collection {Mbalit Project} Mr. Bakary Singhateh said the aim is to get rid of the illegal dumping sites within the KMC, because they have realized that there are lots of illegal dumping sites.

Singhateh reasoned that they want to make a stop to illegal dumping of waste within the KMC, and he’s positive that with these trucks, they would make that happen.

He recalled the arrival of their first consignment of 20 trucks, noting since then, the trucks have been collecting waste materials within the KMC.
