The Governors of Central River, Upper River and Lower River Regions, Mr. Abba Sanyang, Mrs. Fanta B. Samateh-Manneh and Mrs. Rohey John-Manjang, respectively have expressed their views on the manner in which projects are implemented at the regional level.
The trio raised great concern over the unsustainability of numerous projects that are hanging on without completion. The three Governors made the lamentation during the regional launching of a 26.81 million US dollar loan project funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Government of the Gambia.
The long awaited project is expected to last for four years and is covering 39 districts across the country. It’s targeting 30,000 households across the country.
The project aims to discourage livestock owners from traveling to the nearest countries like Mali and Senegal to import small ruminants during Tobaski Feast.
During the launching at various regions of the country, the Governors described the project as very vibrant and long overdue. They prayed and hoped that this Small Ruminants Production Enhancement Project would be a different one. The Governors went on to commend the Government of the Gambia and the Islamic development Bank, through the Ministry of Agriculture, for ensuring that the Gambian farmers benefit from this livestock.
The three regional heads also challenged both the farmers and the implementers in partnership with the project management team, to ensure measures are put in place for the success and sustainability of the project.
They further urged the Project management not to compromise with the implementation of this project.
