On 10 June 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Amdallai Border Post, received and admitted 177 Gambian migrant returnees who had been living in Mauritania.

The repatriation was facilitated by the Gambian Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania, ensuring the safe return of citizens back home. Among the group were 153 men, 18 women, and 6 minors.

Upon arrival, GID officers warmly received the returnees and processed them in line with established border management procedures. Health personnel carried out screenings to safeguard public health before the migrants were formally admitted into the country.

This operation highlights the strong collaboration between border agencies and the government’s commitment to safe, orderly, and humane migration management. The GID reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with partners to strengthen border security while ensuring the dignity and well‑being of Gambian citizens returning home.
