The Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA) has concluded a three-day training program designed to strengthen procurement practices across government ministries, agencies, and public institutions.

The workshop brought together representatives from ten institutions, including the National Environment Agency, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources, Gambia International Airlines, and the Social Development Fund. Participants included procurement officers, administrators, and finance personnel, all tasked with ensuring compliance with national procurement regulations.

Facilitators from GPPA guided attendees through key areas such as procurement planning, bidding processes, evaluation procedures, contract administration, and ethical standards. The sessions emphasized transparency, accountability, and value for money in the management of public resources.

Opening the event, GPPA Director General Phoday Jaiteh underscored the critical role of procurement in effective public service delivery and national development. He also engaged directly with participants, responding to questions and highlighting the importance of integrity in procurement operations.

Director of Procurement Policy and Operations, Ebrima Sanyang, delivered lectures on procurement procedures and later presented certificates to participants, including Lamin Camara, Director of Intersectoral Services Network. Procurement Compliance Officer Muhammed Sawaneh and Manager of Career Development Lamin Sambou also delivered presentations on key topics, reinforcing the importance of compliance and professional standards.

The training concluded with a formal certificate ceremony. Director General Jaiteh handed certificates to several participants, including Wurra Bah, Managing Director of the Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation, and Sylvian Gomezy, Principal of Saint Augustine’s Senior Secondary School.

Speaking on behalf of participants, Mr. Bah described the training as “timely, informative, and beneficial in addressing practical challenges faced in procurement processes.”

The program ended with a renewed commitment from participating institutions to uphold professionalism, integrity, transparency, and compliance in procurement operations across the Gambian public sector.
