On 16th June, 2026, the Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), Mr. Ebrima Mboob, received a delegation from the European Union (EU) and the Spanish National Police during a courtesy visit to the GID Training School in Tanji.

In his remarks, Mr. Mboob commended the longstanding partnership between the EU and the GID, emphasizing its significance in curbing irregular migration and combating transnational organized crime. “This collaboration has been vital in supporting our national efforts and strengthening our operational capacity,” he noted.

Speaking on behalf of the Spanish National Police, Mr. Salvador Manzano, who leads the implementation of the EU‑funded COP and COMPACT projects, underscored the importance of inter‑agency cooperation. He highlighted the successes achieved under ongoing initiatives and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to further support through the forthcoming COP II Project.

The visit concluded with a presentation by Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Alkali Jammeh, who provided an overview of the Department’s migration management interventions and operational activities aimed at preventing irregular migration and mitigating organized crime.

This engagement served as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the Gambia Immigration Department, the European Union, and the Spanish National Police, while reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting effective migration management and regional security.
