A Gambian delegation headed by the President of All Gambia Forestry Platform, Mr. Saikou Janko, has embarked on a two-day walking visit to the Communities of Macca and Marandang in the Southern Senegalese Region of Casamance.

The team, as indicated in the press release signed by the PRO/ Head of Media group, was visiting these communities at the invitation of Pakao Wolilulai through Narang Cross Border Association in the Gambia.

The 15-member delegation comprised representatives of Anti-Bushfire Campaign Teams, Traditional Healers Association (TRAHASS), Beekeepers, as well as representatives of Environmental Protection groups such as GEPAC and Wildlife Conservation groups, among others.

During the visit, as deduced from their invitation letter, the Gambian team would be engaged in knowledge sharing on best practices on current environmental issues such as the control of cross-border bush-fires, uncontrolled logging, deforestation, sand-mining fish meal production, over-exploitation of marine and forestry resources.

The group, according to the news dispatch, was expected to return to the Gambia on Sunday, 15th of September, 2019.

The All Gambia Forestry Platform is a team of volunteers and Non- profit organization who task themselves in safeguarding the Environment and other related issues, as the release stated.

The All Gambia Forestry Platform is a national programme designed to support the implementation of The Gambia’s National Forestry Policy and Act of 1998. The platform helps to strengthen participatory community forestry management throughout the country, with a set target to register robust sustainable forestry management in all regions by the year 2020.
