The Gambia’s chief anti-narcotics officer, Mr. Bakary Gassama, had held his maiden meeting with the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services of Rome, during his recently concluded visit to Italy.
This bilateral meeting, between the two drug law enforcement agencies, aims to develop specific and increasingly effective police cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking between Italy and The Gambia, a country of crucial importance in the Atlantic Ocean route by sea, for transit and storage of narcotics from South America, with final destination to Europe.
During what was seen as a fruitful information exchange, Director General Gassama of The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) thanked the DCSA for the opportunity, and called for the continuation of the collaboration that’s been already developed through the specific training activity in the anti-drug field.
It should be emphasized that, today, the reciprocal willingness to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fight against international drug trafficking has emerged, through a specific bilateral agreement, an Anti-drug Operational Memorandum, of which the two Directors are wishing to sign shortly.
