As The Gambia navigates an anticipated complex and tense political climate characterized by rising polarization and heightened anxieties, the National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) has stepped forward with a timely, intensive civic and voter sensitization campaign in the Central River Region (CRR) and Upper River Region (URR), covering over thirty communities.

Conducted under the theme “Informed Citizens: The Pillar of Credible Elections and Resilient Democracy,” this vital outreach held from August 8th to 15th, 2026 arrives precisely when the country needs it most, heading straight toward the critical 5th December 2026 presidential polls.

“By combining immersive community dialogues with interactive radio programs that capture widespread public participation, the NCCE is successfully bridging information gaps, fostering mutual tolerance across deep political divides, and ensuring that inclusive participation remains a practical reality for every single Gambian,” said NCCE.

For communities that often feel geographically and politically isolated from the capital, the NCCE advanced that having direct, face-to-face platforms to dialogue with civic educators, decode the technical provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, and address growing concerns over polarization has been widely recognized as an invaluable lifeline.

During the engagements, local leaders and residents across the intervention communities warmly welcomed the NCCE’s initiative, expressing profound appreciation for bringing direct engagement to their doorsteps at such a delicate and crucial juncture in the nation’s democratic journey.

The public has hailed the initiative, emphasizing its role in engaging ordinary citizens to dialogue on burning national concerns that threaten the peace and stability of the country—such as misinformation, tribal sentiments, and inflammatory rhetoric that test the fabric of social cohesion.

As the December 5 ballot draws nearer, this proactive grassroots engagement stands as a powerful shield for national stability, reinforcing the collective realization that an informed, vigilant, and legally literate citizenry is the ultimate bedrock of a peaceful, inclusive, and credible democratic process.
