The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), has arrested 24 individuals and seized a variety of suspected prohibited and controlled substances during a nationwide operation conducted between June 15 and 22.

According to Dawda Sanyang, Public Relations Officer of DLEAG, the suspects include 22 Gambians, one Sierra Leonean, and one Senegalese national. Of those arrested, 23 are men and one is a woman. The coordinated operations were carried out across the Kanifing Municipality, West Coast Region, Banjul, and the Upper River Region.

One of the most notable arrests was that of 41-year-old Kawsu Gassama from Tallinding, who was allegedly found in possession of two blocks of suspected cocaine. Other significant seizures included 35 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa from Lamin Sanyang of Bitta Village and 381 ecstasy pills from Muhammed Lamin Touray of Basse.

Sanyang further revealed that officers recovered additional quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, skunk, hashish, crystal meth, kush, and ecstasy from various suspects during the crackdown.

He emphasized that the operations form part of DLEAG’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, dealing, and substance abuse across The Gambia.

“All suspects remain in custody while investigations continue,” Sanyang confirmed.
