The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) wishes to inform Gambians at home and abroad that the mobile biometric passport team, deployed to Spain and Italy in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad, has successfully completed its mission. The team, supported by the Embassy of The Gambia in Spain, returned home today, 17 May 2026.

The enrollment exercise ran from 27 April to 13 May 2026, with an additional three-day extension from 14 to 16 May to accommodate applicants who had already made payment but were unable to access the service during the initial phase in Spain, particularly in Madrid. In total, 1,823 Gambian applicants were enrolled across designated cities in Spain and Italy during the twenty-day operation.

The mission was conducted smoothly, with all administrative processes required for passport production completed in the field in line with legislative procedures. While challenges related to crowd management arose—especially in Madrid due to the high volume of applicants—the team, with the support of the Gambian Embassy, honorary consuls, and Gambian associations, effectively managed and overcame these difficulties.

Upon completion of production in Banjul, passports will be dispatched to the Gambian Embassy in Madrid and the Consulate General in Milan for onward delivery to applicants.

The GID extends its profound appreciation to the Government of The Gambia, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad and the Ministry of Interior, for their trust and support throughout this process. The Department acknowledges the Government’s commitment to prioritizing the needs and welfare of Gambian migrants abroad and reaffirms its dedication to serving with professionalism, efficiency, and commitment in pursuit of national development.
