The Education Students’ Association (EDUSA) of the University of The Gambia has met with Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow to discuss education reform, youth empowerment, and national development.

The student delegation, led by EDUSA President Ebrima H. Secka, briefed the Vice President at State House in Banjul on plans for a nationwide advocacy tour. The initiative will promote unity through education while tackling challenges including teacher attrition, irregular migration, and period poverty among rural schoolgirls.

EDUSA called for schools to be protected from political influence, stressing the need for apolitical and safe learning environments. “Education is the foundation of national development,” Secka said, adding that empowering young people and supporting teachers are essential to securing the country’s future.

The association also outlined upcoming activities such as sporting events, health awareness campaigns, and the celebration of World Teachers’ Day, aimed at strengthening unity and excellence in the education sector.

Vice President Jallow praised the students’ leadership and assured them of his office’s support for initiatives advancing education and youth empowerment.

The meeting underscored the growing role of young educators in shaping national discourse and driving advocacy for a stronger education system in The Gambia.
