The Gambia’s Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure Mr. Bai Lamin Jobe, has depicted the construction of Laminkoto-Passamas road as “a lipservice” by the past regimes-{Jawara-Jammeh regimes}-without any success.
The Works Minister, who made the claim during the inauguration of Laminkoto-Passamas Road, officiated by President Barrow in Upper River Region, argued,”Today, will mark the final completion of the works, after two years, coinciding with coming into office of the Barrow government”. He said the road is 121 kilometers, linking along with its paths over 50 communities.
“It provides access to vast agricultural lands, social facilities, such as schools, and health centers,” Jobe added.
He further said it facilitates greater movement of goods and services and enhances the market potentials of Sami, Sandu, the Wulis and beyond. On behalf of his Ministry, Jobe expressed their profound appreciation to the funding agencies and institutions for making the project a success.
He also hailed development partners such as Saudi Fund, Kuwait Funds for Arab Economic Development, OPEC Fund for international development, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa dubbed BADIYA,, Africa Development Bank and the Gambia Government, for their immense contributions towards the project.
The Minister used the moment to thank President Adama Barrow for his stewardship throughout the various stages of the executions, and all those who contributed towards the successful implementation of the project.
His commendation went to the various contracting teams and the consultants of the project, whose contributions, Jobe held, had made it possible to complete the works in less than the estimated cost and duration.
“This has made it possible for us to engage in extra road works such as Yorobawol and Bansang spots,” the Works and Transport Ministry boss stated.
