Taiba Welfare Foundation (TWF), a UK-based charitable organisation, has recently invested over D160,000 to provide clean and healthy water supply for the community of Kunkujang Jattaya in Kombo North of West Coast Region (WCR).
Speaking on the gesture, Mr. Ebrima Cham, known as Uncle Charles, a member of the Foundation disclosed that a new project had recently been developed to provide clean and healthy drinking water to the people of Kunkujang Jattaya and it surrounding villages.
He informed that the Ousman Bin Affaan well project was launched two weeks ago, and they are pleased to announce the completion of the first solar powered borehole in Kunkujang Jattaya village.
“Today is a great day in the history of TWF,” said Uncle Charles, recalling the London-based charity was established in 2005 by Tayeb Mustapha Cham, of a Gambian descent.
He said their slogan is “dignity, respect and knowledge” which they aim to fulfill as well as promoting peace, tolerance and integration”.
According to Cham, since 2010, Taiba Welfare Foundation has supported communities in the Gambia through providing Qurbani (Tobaski sacrifice) distributions and Ramadan iftars to as many people as possible.
He further noted apart from the air that we breathe, water is one of the important sources of life because water is life, and life can’t go without water, adding that’s why they thought it necessary to reach out to the community of Kunkujang Jattaya village and its surrounding village.
For his part, the Alkalo of Kunkujang Jattaya, Mori Kebba Beyai, expressed delights in receiving such a great support from TWF, for the first time in the history of his village. He pointed to the difficulties their women faced in getting potable water, saying they had been really suffering before the coming of this borehole in their community.
Mr. Abdoukarim Jallow, a native of Kunkujang Jattaya and Mariama Sambou, both thanked the organisation for reaching out to them.
