Mr. Leonce Aissoun, General Coordinator, Media Observatory for Sustainable Fisheries in Africa (MOSFA), speaking at the official opening of a two-day [ 26 – 27 March 2024] regional workshop at Barcelo Hotel in the City of Fes in Morocco under the theme ‘Communication for a Sustainable and inclusive Blue Ocean’ has underscored on the importance of communications for a sustainable and inclusive blue economy in Africa.
He expressed his deep appreciation to his fellow colleagues- journalists drawn from various TV Stations, Online media and Radio stations in ATLAFCO member states.
The MOSFA General Coordinator further elaborated on the importance of the regional workshop, saying, “we gathered here today to discuss the importance of communication for a sustainable and inclusive blue economy in Africa”.
He added that the workshop has a special significance to allow MOSFA members to strengthen their commitment to sustainable fisheries in the region.
He thanked and recognised the important role played by ATLAFCO as a privileged partner of the MOSFA since 2019, noting that the collaboration demonstrates shared commitment to promoting responsible fishing and preserving the marine resources for future generations.
As journalists and communicators, according to him, they have a responsibility to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the marine resources and promoting sustainable fishing practices.”
He pointed out the role of the media stating that media’s role is very crucial in informing, educating and mobilizing fellow citizens around these crucial issues.
He also used the opportunity as the coordinator of MOSFA to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Taoufik El Ktiri, who has just been appointed as the new Executive Secretary of ATLAFCO.
At MOSFA, “we are delighted to be working with you and are confident that your expertise and commitment will help further strengthen our joint actions for sustainable fisheries in Africa.”
He also expressed his sincere thanks to Mr. Abdelouahed BENABBOU, who, after dedicating many years of service to ATLAFCO who is retiring.
In conclusion, he thanked members of MOSFA for their dedication and commitment to sustainable fisheries in Africa saying that” together, we have the power to work towards a more sustainable, inclusive blue economy that respects our marine environment.
He told the workshop participants that the discussions and exchanges that will take place during the workshop will allow members of MOSFA to strengthen their communication skills and develop effective strategies to raise awareness among their audiences.
He thanked members for their commitment to the cause of sustainable fisheries.
