Buzz Women, Gambia is an NGO driven by the goal to help women achieve financial freedom and mould them to become leaders and inspiration to other women. It trains women on business management, financial literacy and leadership skills. Since its establishment in the Gambia in 2018, Buzz Women Gambia had so far, trained and empowered over 7,000 (seven thousand) Gambian women, most of whom are gardeners, market vendors and petty traders.
The impact of Buzz’s intervention speaks for itself. The success stories from these women are very impressive. Buzz Women Gambia aims at training 100 thousand women in the next five years.
This year, Buzz decides to celebrate the International Women’s Day/Week with the organisation targeting four communities, namely Kafuta, Ndemban, Sukuta and Kuloro, with focus on Climate and Environment.
“Our work is centered around the daily lives of women. We educate and take the journey with the woman to allow her make informed choices, so as to realize her economic goal and inner strength. Celebrating with the women in their communities is key to us because we create space for inclusion,” Madam Fatou Touray Cham, National Coordinator of Buzz Women Gambia, remarked.
This is also a complement to the recently established Buzz Green Component of Buzz Women Gambia training modules that focuses on Climate and Environment.
She went on to argue that it so much suited their green module, “and that challenged us to take up community events in observance of this day and the week”.
As the theme implies; ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’, the National Coordinator said they have a programme called ‘Buzz Green’, where they focus on training women on climate change and environmental hazards, while creating sustainable green businesses in the future to mitigate climate change.
During the events, Buzz staff and the women (present) embarked on clean-up exercises, tree planting, sensitization on waste management. Ms. Fatou Manneh, Buzz Green trainer, demonstrated to the women gardeners the process of making compost manure from the wastes around them. This encourages organic farming and saves cost for the women gardeners and in turn, promote good health for the consumer.
These activities were conducted on 2nd, 4th and 8th March at Kafuta, Ndemban and Sukuta Gardens, respectively. The commemoration is expected wrap up with a sensitization on the dangers of the use of “Tabaa” substance, at Kuloro on 11th March, with the Anchor Women (Dimbaa Nyimaas).
Buzz welcomes partners to work with them in women empowerment for a sustainable future.
