In response to President Adama Barrow’s call for all political parties to work together in fighting Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in The Gambia, the new political grouping called All Peoples Party (APP), under the leadership of Alhagi Dr. Gumbo Ali Touray, on Tuesday, donated sanitary materials to various communities in the West Coast Region (WCR).
In his address to Gambians before the APP Volunteer team on COVID-19 departed for distribution, Dr. Touray reminded that APP has responded to the call by the President for Opposition Parties to join in the efforts against the disease.
“Be it real or political, our concern is sincerity to our nation, and therefore, we are genuinely informing government that we are ever more ready in partnership with government to help.
“We all know that only together we can stop the spread of the coronavirus. To this end, we need to work together in order to tackle our shared challenges,” the Interim leader of APP intimated.
He said now that a Committee is formed to defeat COVID-19, they are soliciting the support of all and sundry, in cash or kind, to enable the team to carry it’s mandate, i.e. masks, gloves, sanitizer, bleach, soap, buckets and so forth.
“We are appealing to all to put hands on deck to defeat the enemy. It’s also gratifying to announce that people have already started submitting their names for the initiative; God bless everyone,” Dr. Touray enjoined.
The team, under the leadership of Mr. Ebou Gaye, was in the following settlements for distribution of the COVID-19 preventive materials: Manduar, Wellingara Cinema, Sinchu Alhagi, Sanyang Village, Banyaka Village, Daru Busumbala and Brufut.
In Madiana Village, the Alkalo thanked the APP team for their valuable contribution to the fight agaist COVID-19. He vouched that other communities were very happy with the gesture and assured APP that the items would be used, accordingly.
