A Brufut native residing in Alaska, United States of America (USA), Mr. Ousman Fatty, has provided his settlement with 35 solar street lights worth about D210,000, as part of his contributions to the development of his country.
While Ousman himself couldn’t be present at the event, but his brother Mr. Sanna Fatty, was on hand to address members of the press on the development. He held, it wasn’t a surprise for him because “I know my brother can do more than this. As we all know now, the country is not safe.”
Fatty, therefore, reasoned that lightening up the streets is indeed a great blessing for him, while hoping the crime rates could also reduce and “children can be safe as well”.
He used the opportunity to call on other Gambians to follow his brother’s footsteps since it’s all geared towards the development of the country. He argued they couldn’t rely on NAWEC because sometimes power goes and off; but with the solar lights, it could go on till day break.
Mr. Alasana Kassama, the Contactor and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABK Enterprise, speaking on the occasion said, that wasn’t the first street to be lightened up in Brufut, but the fifth street; adding in total, they have installed about 120 lights in Brufut, and they still have more projects ahead.
CEO Kassama expressed their gratitude to the people of Brufut ‘for always supporting’ him and trusting him with their work. According to him, ABK Enterprise is a young company that is empowered by only youths that have been working towards the development of the Gambia.
Mr. Sanusey Camara, a nephew to the benefactor, acknowledged that’s not the first time his uncle (Ousman) had contributed towards national development, noting he had done a lot of things that couldn’t be mentioned.
“He has not just contributed to the development of the country, but also in terms of religion. I pray that the youths of the country learn from this and contribute towards their nation,” Camara intimated.
Mr. Manlafie Manneh, a member of the Brufut community said to eradicate darkness, the blessing attached to it cannot be known by one until they read the Holy Qur’an for you.
Manneh noted that when walking in darkness, “if you don’t step on something then you will hit up something”. So, to lighten up that place is indeed, a great happiness for them.
