Twenty youth entrepreneurs across the Lower River Region on Monday commences a five day training on Agro-Entrepreneurship and Food processing organise by National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI), one of the satellite institution under the Ministry of Youth and Sports .
The capacity building training is currently underway at the Pakalinding trans-Gambia lodge in the Lower River Region.
The training funded by GIZ international service, a Germany organisation; targeting sixty young people in LRR is expected to last for three weeks covering three different badges.
The capacity building will focus mainly on Agro-Entrepreneurship and food processing skills that would prepare youth to become job creators and not job seekers.
In his opening remarks, Suute M . Jawo, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Technical at the Ministry of Youth and Sports thanked GIZ international service for funding the project in the efforts to further develop the potentials of young people in the areas of youth enterprise and employment development .
‘‘I have no doubt that youth and women entrepreneurs selected here will make best use of the opportunity’’ he state.
He emphasised that NEDI act is established to empower Gambian youths through the provision of training in entrepreneurship, provide a high quality business advisory services and provide micro support for business sustainability.
Kebba Darboe, Deputy Governor of Lower River Region said the training will provide the beneficiary the opportunity within the current business dynamics as well as to expose them to the opportunities available within the country and beyond.
Deputising for the General Manager of NEDI, Buba Touray acknowledge their partnership with the funders, GIZ international service to implement projects in the regions, stating that NEDI is a household name in LRR as it has yield dividend.
He said this training is the third roll-out between NEDI and GIZ international service which he said will focus on general entrepreneurship in combination with food processing.
Touray used the opportunity to thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their innovative effort to secure loan scheme for young people of the country.
Other speakers include Saikou Jobe, the Regional Youth Coordinator and Abdou Suula Bojang of Jamma trading who both express similar sentiments and urge the participants to take up the training very seriously in order to impact the knowledge achieved.
