Mr. Alfu M. Sarr is one of the few Gambian Agropreneurs who received financial support from the Israeli Embassy in Dakar, Senegal to enable him implement some of the various farming and innovative projects such as Agrotect or Agribusiness that he runs in different locations across the Gambia.
A native of Ndofan village in North Bank Region of the Gambia, Alfu found an undiluted purpose of engaging into agric-entrepreneurship which has encouraged him to register an Agribusiness Company-“Noble Agrotect”.
The establishment focuses on organic production and commercialization of high quality agro-products like honey and cashew-related products with affordable delivery services using tricycles in Brikama West Coast Region (WCR).
“I started my business idea at the age of 14 years back at the village in Ndofan in 2004,” Alfu recalled.
He is currently a Business Adviser at the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter, through the Agribusiness and Rural Transformation (ART) program supported by the EU-funded Tekki Fii [Make it here in The Gambia] project.
The young Agropreneur was nominated by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry to attend the Gambia 2020 Small Country Great Potential Startup Ecosystem Summit that was held in the country from the 9th to 11th of November, 2019 supported by the Israeli Embassy in Dakar as well as Konrad Foundation.
The 4.5 million CFA franc grant awarded to the agro-businessman is from the Moshav project of the Israeli Government that seeks to financially and technically support African development endeavors in various fields and professions.
Entrepreneurs and innovators are gaining international recognition and many young Gambian entrepreneurs continue to explore various means to survive the endless challenges entrepreneurship is fraught with in this country.
