Tujereng Village Development Committee (VDC) in partnership with Care for Gambia Foundation recently donated foodstuffs and sanitary items worth over D140,000 to 50 households in  Tujereng village and it surrounding areas, at a presentation held at Tujereng Hospital.

According to members of the VDC and the Foundation, the donation is geared towards contributing their quota in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic that has already affected the globe and people’s livelihoods.

Items donated include 50 bags of 25kg of American rice, 50 gallons of  5 litres cooking oil, washing machine, detergents, wall fans, wheelbarrow, rakes, bleaches, bedsheets, gloves, PPEs, sanitizers, mask and  buckets.

Mr. Lamin K. Bojang, Public Relations Officer of Tujereng VDC, said there can’t be good health without proper food.

He told the gathering that “this is why Tujereng VDC join hands with Care for Gambia in order to make this donation successful”.

The Public Health Officer at the tujereng Health Facility, Maa Ceesay urged the people Tujereng and it surroundings to take the preventive measures given by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Mr. Ousman Jawuneh, Officer-in-Charge of Tujereng Hospital, said the sanitary items that have been donated to the hospital is very important.

He  acknowledged the VDC has done a lot for the hospital, inter alia they brought water supply, electricity, new buildings; and were able to do all that due to their partnership with Care for Gambia Foundation.

Mr. Malick Manneh said the donor has done a lot for the community of Tujereng because this is not the first time Care for Gambia Foundation is reaching out to the people of Tujereng village, much especially the hospital. He added that Care of Gambia Foundation would continue helping the people of the village.

For his part, Haruna Bojang, the Village Alkalo of Tujereng, expressed gratitude in receiving such support in his village and the work they are doing for the village, saying “everyone appreciates it a lot, and I will like to thank the VDC for taking such a bold step in contributing their quota in the fight against this deadly pandemic”.

Ms. Sirreh Jatta, a beneficiary, thanked the VDC and Care for Gambia Foundation for reaching out to them by donating those food items.

While noting the donated items would go a long way in the fight against the pandemic, Jatta echoed: “We, the women and men, can’t do anything for our families anymore, due to this virus. We pray that Allah see us out of this deadly pandemic”.
