The top management of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under the Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with its regional Livestock directors across the country, recently concluded a three-day 2nd Annual Retreat at Jarra Jenio in Lower River Region.
Geared towards bringing all the major players within the department of livestock under a single platform to confer about their 2019 activities, the retreat also availed the opportunity for them to examine how far they had gone with the implementation of their work plan and challenges, progress made and take stock of their gains and as well consolidate it to 2020.
Speaking to the media after the retreat, the Director General of DLS, Dr. Abdou Ceesay said the department deemed it very fitting to organize that 2nd retreat that would help to create a roadmap for 2020. That, it would also help to identify their weakness and redouble their efforts, through team work, hard work and commitment of staff to boost the DLS for effective services delivery.
DG Ceesay revealed that, the retreat was subjected to a critical argument among the staffers, but at the end of it all, they were able to come out with a work plan for 2020 for the department. He said the work plan would surely help his department to use the direction in 2020.
Dr. Ceesay argued that his Department livestock is among the most important departments as it contributes 60 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
The Livestock department chief added that looking at all the challenges, or concerns was geared towards improving the livestock sector of this country. He also admitted that the retreat was not easy but thanks to God, at the end of the retreat they come up with work plan for 2020 that to guide them in their operations for 2020.
DG Ceesay used the opportunity to commend his regional livestock directors for their hard work, cooperation and the level of commitment demonstrated during the retreat.
