More than four thousand trees had been planted recently at the Bulock Community Forest in Foni, West Coast Region, by the Kapongha Youth Development Association.
The move is geared towards the fight against Global warming and the effects of climate change, which had become a global menace. This massive tree-planting was the fourth time in a row, by the Association and its collaborating partners.
With the help of the Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter (GYIN Gambia Chapter), “we are here today, to witness yet, another planting exercise, and this marks the fourth time since the inception of Kapongha Youth Association in 2014, which began works in 2015’’, the National Assembly Member for Foni Brefet Constituency, Hon. Sunkaru Badjie stated.
The lawmaker described the initiative as the “best and effective” way in which they could fight the havoc cause by global warming, as well as the effects of climate, which, as he noted, continues to cause more and more damages on their environment in recent times.
“The youth of Bulock, you have a big challenge. And the challenge is: How do you preserve and make sure that these trees are protected?” Executive Director of GYIN Gambia Chapter, Mr. Mamadou Edrisa Njie told them. He challenged them to protect those trees for posterity, so that the children yet unborn could benefit from them.
Mr. Tamba Jammeh, the Director General of Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association who donated 300 trees to Kapongha Youth Association, said he was delighted when the Association contacted him to help them with some trees so as to complement their efforts, which he described as a good initiative.
He reassured them that his doors are open and they could always ask for his help, adding that he would surely welcome their requests. Jammeh said he’s happy that they would be able to push this partnership ahead.
