On 17 June 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department’s Border Patrol Unit (BPU), stationed at the Migration Management Unit (MMU) in Tanji, successfully intercepted sixty-seven (67) prospective migrants in Gunjur Madina Salam.
The group consisted of sixty-one (61) Senegalese nationals and five (5) Gambians, including sixty-five (65) males and two (2) females.
This well-coordinated operation underscores the GID’s firm commitment to curbing irregular migration through effective border governance. It also sends a strong message to smugglers seeking to use The Gambia as a transit point to Europe.
In a statement, the GID reaffirmed its dedication to promoting safe and regular migration pathways while discouraging young people from embarking on the perilous journey across the Mediterranean.
The Department emphasized that such decisive actions are part of its broader strategy to protect lives, uphold national security, and contribute to regional efforts against irregular migration.
