On 9 June 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department’s (GID) Border Patrol Unit (BPU), operating under the Migration Management Unit (MMU) in Tanji, carried out a successful operation that halted the movement of eighty-three (83) prospective irregular migrants across three communities in the West Coast Region — Sanyang, Sinchang, and Busumbala.

The group comprised forty-three (43) Malians, seven (7) Guineans, four (4) Ivorians, and twenty-one (21) Senegalese nationals. Of these, seventy-two (72) were male and eleven (11) were female.

This decisive intervention highlights GID’s steadfast commitment to combating irregular migration. By disrupting the attempt, the department reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding lives and property while strengthening advocacy for safer, legal, and more regulated migration pathways.
