Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow on Tuesday, June 2, undertook a high-level inspection of the African Union (AU) Villas in Brufut, reaffirming government’s commitment to strengthening security and modernizing the landmark facility.
Accompanied by senior officials including Permanent Secretary Musa Mbye, Inspector General of Police Seedy Muctarr Touray, Adviser Madi Jatta, and Deputy Permanent Secretary Ousman Ceesay, the Vice President toured the villas to assess current conditions and review plans for future development.
Originally constructed to host Heads of State and Government during the 2006 African Union Summit, the AU Villas remain a strategic national asset. VP Jallow emphasized the importance of preserving and upgrading the facility to meet modern standards of hospitality and security.
“We want to transform this facility into a modern, comfortable accommodation centre for state guests and technical experts serving our country. It is a valuable national asset that must be protected and utilized effectively,” he stated.
The inspection highlighted government’s resolve to address security gaps, strengthen management systems, and explore partnerships aimed at enhancing the quality and standards of the villas.
As The Gambia continues to position itself as a hub for international diplomacy and cooperation, investments in state facilities such as the AU Villas are seen as vital to advancing national development and showcasing the country’s renowned hospitality.
