The Government of The Gambia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education, research, science, and technology by participating in the Education World Forum 2026, held in London, United Kingdom.

The Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Prof. Pierre Gomez, and the Honourable Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, are leading a delegation of senior technical officials at the Forum. Their presence underscores The Gambia’s determination to strengthen its education sector through international collaboration and strategic partnerships.

On the margins of the Forum, the delegation has engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), and other international education partners. These discussions are focused on expanding opportunities for Gambian students and researchers, enhancing institutional cooperation, and fostering innovation in education and technology.

Mr. Suntou Touray, Deputy Head of Mission at the Gambian High Commission in London, met with the ministers and their teams to explore avenues through which the Mission can further support collaboration between UK institutions and The Gambia’s education sector.

In a related development, Her Excellency Dr. Fatou Bensouda represented The Gambia at the United Kingdom Global Partnership Conference, jointly convened by the Governments of the United Kingdom and South Africa. Following the conference, High Commissioner Bensouda held discussions with Mr. Masireh K. Drammeh, Director of Internal Audit of The Gambia, on measures aimed at strengthening institutional efficiency and enhancing the effective delivery of the Mission’s core mandate.

These engagements highlight The Gambia’s proactive approach to building strategic alliances that will bolster its education system, empower its youth, and reinforce its role within the global academic community.
